Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword review

It’s no secret that I enjoy gaming in all forms. Tomb Raider was a classic piece of work, and the game has translated well into an online Slot offered at Platinum Play. I fired this game up again the other day to write this review, and have fallen in love with it all over again.
Let’s start with the basics – this is a 5 reel, 30 payline video slot. The coins range from 0.01 to 0.2; and you can play up to 10 coins per line.
This means per spin you can wager between 0.01 and 60 of your chosen currency. Personally I always opt for more coins and less actual money – but I’m a cheap date
. What makes this game great is the music, and flow of graphics. The trend in Video Slots nowadays is to animate almost every fancy symbol. In fact Flight Zone animates every single symbol in the entire game – which is nice. Tomb Raider – Secret of the Sword is a little older, so only some symbols are animated; but the game plays so smoothly, and the combinations hit so often that it doesn’t really matter.
There are 3 features in the game – free spins, a super mode and a bonus game.
- Free Spins is activated as usual – with 3 scatters. The game does have the irritating feature of “rolling reels”. This means when you have 2 free spins symbols and you are looking for your third – the reels roll extra times, hyping the excitement. I feel a little cheated by this element. Sure, the blood flows more quickly, but when the symbol doesn’t hit I always wonder if it would have had the reels not rolled … anyway – I still manage to get free spins a fair amount of the time. An interesting element they’ve added to free spins is the multiplier. If you hit a winning combination – the winning symbols pay, and then explode allowing the symbols to drop into the spaces just vacated. If this gives you a second win – then the multipliers goes up, the symbols pay and then explode again. This can repeat 5 times!
- Super Mode is all random. The feature is triggered randomly, and gives you a few free spins. During these spins, Lara appears randomly, and shoots a few random symbols. These symbols become wild, and the position they were in is wild for the remainder of the free spins. It’s really wild and out of here as a feature; and because you don’t know when or if it will trigger it feels like a pure bonus when it does.
The best feature of the game is the Bonus Game. They did some serious work on this one. It’s a complicated mini game within a game. You trigger it by getting a passport symbol on the center line of each reel. Don’t worry – not all in the same spin. But every spin it happens activates the reel – when all 5 reels are activated, the bonus game launches. During the game you get to travel to different location. Each location has a pick em game with two traps hidden. Trigger both traps and the game finishes. Your goal is to find the hidden piece of the sword. Do so and you move on. If you find all the pieces (one in each location) the game finishes and you get an extra completion bonus. It’s really cool.
Overall the game was hitting combinations quickly, often and easily; and I loved every second of it. I don’t usually rate games – but bugger it. 10/10! If I could give more I would. Play it now at Platinum Play.
